Located in the heartland of New York State, Binghamton is surrounded by lively cities and quaint villages. The area is proud of its many beautiful parks and outdoor recreation centers, including the Binghamton University Nature Preserve, a 190-acre forest and wetland area with a six-acre pond that adjoins campus.

Greater Binghamton encompasses the cities of Binghamton, Endicott, and Johnson City and the town of Vestal, where the campus is located. It is a highly diversified community with a population of 200,000, offering sophisticated cultural life and a lively spectator sports scene, along with readily accessible outdoor recreation.

Since Binghamton is only a short distance from Syracuse, New York City and Philadelphia, it attracts a variety of touring musicals, concerts and other events. There is also a lively local cultural arts scene, including theater and opera companies and a philharmonic orchestra. The Anderson Center for the Arts on campus features international performances, musical recitals, and other cultural events.

Whether you prefer watching or participating, sporting events can play a part in your life here. Binghamton is the home of the minor-league Binghamton Mets baseball team and the AHL Binghamton Senators hockey team. The area offers a number of golf courses, including the Enjoie Golf Course, host to the B.C. Open. The area also features a multitude of parks and trails.

For those for whom shopping is the “sport” of choice, just about anything you might look for may be found within a few miles of the University. Choices include Oakdale Mall and the Vestal Parkway (which includes such shops as Target, Super Walmart, Old Navy, Circuit City, Kohl’s Department Store, Bed Bath and Beyond, and many more!). Additionally, the Carousel Mall is just an hour north in Syracuse.
