Freshmen are required to live on campus unless their families have made previous arrangements with the Office of Residential Life to allow them to reside off campus. Freshmen, however, are not allowed to live in the apartment communities. Local freshmen from Broome or Tioga counties may either live on campus or commute from home. We do not have separate freshman housing because we believe that the diversity of students enhances the residential experience for everyone.
Binghamton University makes every effort to house transfer students who wish to reside on campus. Students who wish to live in the Binghamton area should take advantage of the services offered through the Off Campus College (OCC) office. The staff works closely with students, helping them find convenient, affordable housing in the community, such as the nearby University Plaza. Over half of all of our students live off-campus and many landlords rent exclusively to students. There are many apartments on or near bus lines, and students post roommate searches each semester. Click to visit OCC for more information.
Due to the high demand for undergraduate housing, Binghamton University is not able to offer on-campus housing to graduate students. We encourage new graduate students to use the resources of the Off Campus College office (http://occ.binghamton.edu.new.htm) for assistance in finding a suitable living arrangement off campus. OCC offers a listing of available apartments in the community, a listing of current Binghamton University students looking for roommates, lease review, and other services. Graduate Students may also wish to consider University Plaza as an option.
Students from around the world live together on campus, and every effort is made to make everyone feel welcome. Additionally, the International Student and Scholar Services office is dedicated to assisting international students. Their staff can provide students with sound advice and friendly suggestions to help them settle into the campus community.
On-campus housing during break periods is only available to residents of Bingham, Windham and Mohawk Halls, and the apartment communities (Susquehanna and Hillside).
After you have paid your deposit to attend Binghamton University, you will receive information about your housing options. You are urged to complete the material indicating your housing preferences as soon as possible. Students will be notified of their residence hall assignment in early summer. Housing is only available for undergraduate students.
