Training
All Resident Directors and Community Directors participate in a comprehensive training program prior to fall opening. Additionally, staff receive on-going training throughout the academic year.
New Assistant Directors will work with the Sr. Assistant Director of Residential Life and the other Assistant Directors to learn the specific responsibilities and procedures required of the position.
Career/Skill Development
All Resident Directors and Community Directors participate in a professional development opportunity which allows staff to gain additional experience, further develop skill-sets, and create or enhance bridges to other departments within the University. Staff members have the choice of serving on a departmental ad-hoc committee, acting as the Residential Life representative on a University-wide committee, or working in another functional area within the University.
Assistant Directors are encouraged to continue their growth and development of their professional skill set. They have the opportunity to implement initiatives to enhance the program and services of the department and/or University. Some areas that have been explored include transfer students, gender-neutral housing, assessment, and sexual assault training.
Departmental Committees
Each Resident Director and Community Director serves on a departmental committee. Our committees include: RA Selection, RA Training, RD Search, and Social Justice Education. Returning staff members may have the opportunity to serve as co-chair of their committee.
Assistant Directors serve as mentors to departmental committees and as Residential Life representatives on University committees. University committees include: University Transportation, Personal Safety, University Events, Eating Awareness, etc.
