Dear Students (and prospective students)!
Welcome to College-in-the-Woods, a Living-Learning Community for more than 35 years! It's my role as Faculty Master to coordinate and enhance the living-learning aspects of life in CIW.
Fall 2009 we are offering a Learning Community in Oneida Hall. This is a great way to learn right in your own residence hall, with the people you live with!
Oneida Law Emphasis Community
• Philosophy 146: Law and Justice: Discussion section restricted to CIW students
• Philosophy 148: Medical Ethics: Discussion section restricted to CIW students
• Sociology 100: Introductory Sociology: Discussion section restricted to CIW students
• Two sections of Writing 111, restricted to CIW students.
Students in the Oneida Learning Community will take a CIW Writing 111 and at least one of the other CIW courses. Writing 111 is strongly recommended for all new students; by taking it with other Oneida Hall students, you will be able to work together more effectively. Law and Justice is the introductory course for the Philosophy, Politics, and Law major, so if you are considering this major, this course is for you. Medical Ethics and Sociology are courses with very general applicability in a liberal arts education, but each has obvious benefits for a student considering a career in Law. The Oneida Learning Community is a great opportunity to get to know other students with many of the same interests, and to work together with them for your first semester in college. In addition to general programs, the RAs will focus their programming efforts on topics of interest for prospective pre-law students.
To request enrollment in the Oneida Law Emphasis Community, contact apreus@binghamton.edu. New students will have the opportunity to request the Oneida Learning Community when they have paid their deposit and request housing online.
